Sheet 4 – Advanced Beginners to Early Intermediate Drum Warm Ups

This is an 8 bar drum warm up exercises consisting of a single bar drum fill idea, which is developed during the following 7 bars with similar fills and applying different 16th note and 8th note rhythms whilst following the same pattern around the kit.

The ability level is around Grade 2-4 because of the use of developed 16th note rhythms.

Help and notes for reading the warm up sheet

The first bar is played ‘RLRL’ throughout with 16th notes, accenting the pulse of 1 2 3 4. The accented notes move around the kit (snare, high tom, hi hat + bass drum, floor tom) but the other notes stay on the snare drum. On every other bar, the accents stay the same but the rhythms change.

On bar 2, the rhythm is 1 + a 2 + a, and so on. Bar 3 has a ‘1 e (+) a’ rhythm at the start, which is played ‘R L – L’, which is the same on beat 3. On bar 4 the rhythms are ‘1 e +, 2 e +’. Bars 5-8 have a dotted quaver followed by a semi quaver rhythm, which is played ‘1 (e) (+) a’. The ones in brackets can be counted, but not played.

On the final bar, the stepped hi hat is added in to finish off the warm up. If you wanted to, you could add the stepped hi hat all of the way through.

6 Rock Exercises with Drum Beats and Fills

These 6 Rock Exercises are selected from the pdf ebook ‘40 Beats and fills Exercises – Book 3‘.

I have selected these 6 exercises because they give a good insight to the book as well as being a really useful resource on it’s own. Perhaps a drum teacher would print this off for their pupils to work on, or a drummer might want to focus on rock drumming and use this on it’s own for several sessions.

The difficulty levels range from about grade 3 to grade 6, which I would say is advanced beginner to intermediate.

Sheet 2 – Drum Warm Up Exercises for Beginners

Download the PDF for ‘Sheet 2 – Drum Warm Up Exercises for Beginners’.

This beginners drum warm-up exercise includes easy drum beats with quarter note ride cymbals. The quarter note ride cymbal drum beats start off sparsely, like they are not complete drum beats, and then build into more of a basic beat with a kick-snare-kick-snare rhythm. The drum warm up then finishes with a fully formed drum fill, which tries to stay easy at the same time as being mildly challenging and musically interesting.

Sheet 3 – Drum Warm Up Exercises for Advanced Beginners to Early Intermediate

This drum warm up sheet continues on from Sheet 2 by developing the paradiddle-diddle theme on the final exercise. Before that, we work on a marhing snare or practice pad style exercise, and then move onto an accent based triplet snare pattern and then the drum groove too, in the style of Hold The Line by Toto, which is featured in RSL Grade 5 drums 2018 sylabus.

50 Beginners Drum Beats

This collection of 50 beginners drum beats features in my ebook Beginners Drum Book 2023. I am planning to update this book at some point so the 50 beats may change or become more than 50, but if I do create a newer version, the 2023 version will still be included as a pdf ebook. We start off fairly easy and by beat 21 the beats do get quite hard, learning Jazz beats with 4 way co-ordination. This selection of 50 beats can be learned as one topic, or it can be something to dip in and out of. Here are all of the sheets with all 50 beats, but if you would like the printable pdf, then you will need to purchase that here.

Intermediate Drum Beats Fills and Exercises

I’m currently working on a new intermediate drum ebook for release in Feb/March 2024. I’ve posted quite a few worksheets on pinterest, which can be viewed on the TL Music Lessons Pinterest.

For a limited time (Up to the end of Feb 2024), learndrumsforfree.com readers can pre order the ebook for free using the following code: FEB24

Whilst we’re giving away free content, this code will probably last for a lot longer, until 100 downloads have been reached, and then the code will no longer work. Use the code NOTEBOOK2022 to download the drum exercises pdf booklet for free until the 100 downloads limit is reached.

Introduction to Beginners Drum Book 2023

I have decided to include the year in the title because I have resigned myself to the fact that you can’t make a perfect drum book for beginners (to suit everyone at different ages, abilities and styles) and I’m probably going to have another go at a later date that has a lot of new content (not just a few tweaks). Maybe I could if I had some extended time to myself to work on it properly, but I’m quite busy with teaching and life, so I am going to go ahead and release this at 80% quality rather than never release it at all. I also think that when you are teaching as a career or for a length of time, you tend to crave something new to teach or work on after a while, so this is why I’ve made this book, for me and for other teachers. I’m hoping some people can use this book to teach themselves too, so I will make it as accessible as possible for this purpose, but some things may need to be researched as I don’t want to include loads of text in the book and bloat it out too much. I’m going to include all of the necessary notation that a teacher can use in the lessons and where I feel it necessary and helpful to many, I will make notes on stickings or hints and tips.

When I set up the book as a pre order with draft content included I had some really great suggestions and requests when I asked what people would like to see in the final book. Thanks so much to those people and I hope you like the additions I’ve made. For example I had quite a few requests for Latin style drumming, which I’ve tried to include but I need to learn more of this myself too in the future. Lots of people said they use my books for teaching so it was a good feeling to think of all the students that might be working on my content, and that also gave me a bit of responsibility when writing this book too. I also got requests for including song content, so I have spent time compiling a list of songs for you to learn and also included blank sheets for a teacher to write down parts from the songs to learn, or try to make notes yourself if you are working alone. You can find the playlist on Spotify called Beginners Drum Book 2023.
